Streets of Porto

I think this is my new favourite place, I remember saying to myself walking the streets of Porto whilst scoffing my third Portuguese tart for the day. And what's not to love, art, culture, PORT!  We explored this cool town for three days, gosh I wish it was for three months. Sure there are the tourist areas down by the river, but the real fun is walking those skinny streets and finding little artisan winemakers, olive oil producers, ceramicists, textiles and more.  Low key tripe and bean stew in a local restaurant that makes you feel you have turned back the ages and sitting in wineries that are 500 years old.  

What I loved about Porto (apart from the welcoming hospitality and $1 beers!) was the relaxed vibe and feeling of regeneration.  Chatting to artisans this town has had it tough, ceramics and textiles being wiped out from cheaper imports from China and the GFC.  But now, it's starting to bloom.  The old buildings are wiping away years of neglect to shine as bright with the warmth of the Portuguese sun.  In this ongoing collection, I have taken photos of the amazing tiles in Porto and I wanted to imbue them with the look of the old, showing the layers of plaster and paint peeling away.  The beauty of the colours and excitement of what is to come through the shine of the gloss on the varnish.  It's texture, grit, and renewal.
